Much of the Kyrgyz Republic’s wealth comes from migrants working abroad as many young people, mainly men, have to seek employment elsewhere.

Central Asia is an important region to the UK. It provides significant oil and gas supplies to the EU and rest of the world. Bordering with Afghanistan and close to Pakistan, Central Asian countries have a role in ensuring broader stability in the region and combating the drugs flow to the UK.

Encouraging good governance and a favorable investment climate is paramount to the development of Kyrgyzstan. Greater accountability of the state to its citizens, to improve the quality and transparency of scarce public finances, is at the heart of DFID’s work with government and civil society.

DFID funds many organizations who are working to end poverty through open competition.
